Each December, we untagle the lights, put up the tree, exchange gifts, eat good food, and gather with family and friends. These are wonderful blessings - yet if we are not careful, Christmas can become filled with everything except Christ.
The heart of Christmas is not sentiment, snow, stockings, or songs. It is a Saviour. The angel declared to the shepherds: "The Saviour - yes, the Messiah, the Lord - has been born today in Bethlehem... " (Luke 2:11, NLT)
Christmas is first and foremost a call to worship. The shepherds hurried to Jesus. The wise men travelled a great distance to bow before the newborn King. Worship was their response to God's gift of grace. How tragic that today Jesus is often crowded out of His own birthday celebration.
Why should we worship Christ at Christmas?
1. Because Christmas reveals God's love. Christ came to rescue sinners. The cradle leads to the cross. Jesus stepped into our broken world to save us from sin and death.
2. Because Jesus is worthy. He is Immanuel - God with us. He didn't merely bring peace; He is our peace. No Christmas present could ever compare with the indescribable gift of God's Son.
3. Because worship re-centres our hearts. When we slow down and lift our eyes to Jesus, our fears shrink, our priorities shift, and our affections are renewed. Worship turns chaos into calm.
So, this Christmas, before the rush of wrapping paper and roast dinners, pause - truly pause - and worship Christ. Read the Scriptures. Pray. Sing carols with renewed wonder. Share the Good News with someone who desperately needs hope.
Jesus is not just part of Christmas; He is the reason for Christmas. Let us make room in our hearts, our homes, and our celebrations to adore Him.
May this season lead us to humble worship, joyful praise, and fresh surrender to the One who came to save. Merry Christmas - and worship the King!
