Go! And Let the Spirit Tame Your Tongue

We have tamed lions and leopards, parrots and pythons. Humanity has subdued the wildness of beasts. Yet, James pulls no punches when he says: "no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison." (James 3:8, NLT)

That hits home, doesn't it?

With the same tongue we praise our Lord and Father - and then we turn around and curse those made in His image. James asks a cutting question: "Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water?" (James 3:11, NLT)

Our words reveal the condition of our hearts. They show who's truly in control - our flesh or the Spirit.

If we belong to Jesus, we are called to speak life, not death. To build up, not tear down. To bless, not curse. But in our own strength, we fail. Left to ourselves, we let sarcasm, gossip, criticism, and anger escape unchecked. That's why we must surrender our tongues - and our hearts - to the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit alone can purify the spring within. He alone can transform bitter waters into sweet ones. And when He does, our words become instruments of grace, healing, encouragement, and truth.

So today, let this be your call:
Go! And let the Holy Spirit guide your words and actions.
Before you speak, pause. Ask the Spirit, "Will these words honour Christ?"
Before you post online, pray. "Will this reflect the love of Jesus?"
Before you act, yield. "Holy Spirit, lead me."

You may not be able to tame your tongue - but the Spirit can. He can take what is restless and make it restful. What is reckless and make it righteous. What is poison and make it pure.

The world needs voices that echo heaven, not hell. Be that voice. Be that fountain of blessing. Go - and speak as one who belongs to Jesus.

Lord, help me today to speak only what glorifies You. Holy Spirit, take control of my heart, my thoughts, my tongue. May my words be a fountain of life, not bitterness. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
