Proverbs 8:34 (NLT): "Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home!"
A Word for Today
We live in a world filled with constant noise-news alerts, social media, endless opinions. Yet God calls us to something different: to stop, to listen, to wait for His voice.
In Proverbs 8:34, the word for "listen" means more than just hearing-it's to heed, to obey. The word for "watching" means to stay awake, alert. And "waiting" speaks of expectation.
This is the daily posture of the believer: listening with a heart ready to obey.
The Voice of the Shepherd
Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27).
He is always speaking - through His Word, through His Spirit, through the quiet moments when we turn our hearts toward Him. The question is: are we listening?
Charles Stanley said: "God is always speaking. The question is: are we listening?"
Why It Matters
Listening to God brings joy. Ignoring Him hardens the heart. Hebrews 3:15 warns: "Today when you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."
The greatest call you will ever hear is the call of the Gospel: Jesus died for your sin, was buried, and rose again so you might have life. He says, "Look! I stand at the door and knock..." (Revelation 3:20).
Will you open the door?
A Simple Response
Set aside a few moments today to be still before God.
Open His Word.
Ask Him to speak - and commit to obey what He says.
If you have never placed your faith in Jesus Christ, repent and believe today. Let His voice lead you to forgiveness, peace, and eternal life.
A Prayer
Lord, help me to tune my heart to Your voice. Teach me to listen daily, to obey faithfully, and to trust You fully. Amen.
